I know how it is. We live in excessively ‘interesting times.’ Many organizations are asking people to do “more with less.” Most importantly, despite you, like my family, being very interested in Mongolian history especially the Mongol Empire, you simply haven’t had time to brush up on the main points of this consequential, multicultural empire whose echoes have been felt ever since in world history.
Well, luckily, the internet abounds in concise, informative, and entertaining summaries of the Mongols, so when you are inevitably called into a conference room to brief executives about the largest land empire the world has ever known –as will happen to us all at one point or another– you can give them salient facts from the leadership changes made by the man who became Genghis Khan to the origins of that one Conan the Barbarian quote.
I actually have several videos to share, based on your taste, but the first one comes from Suibhne, who specializes in animated history summaries and, unless any of the others below is a big draw, it’s a good place to start:
Next is a similarly timed video from a series I think I’ve linked to before, Megaprojects, featuring a media presenter I know I’ve referenced, Simon Whistler:
If you want things a bit more irreverent and don’t mind the presenter calling attention to himself, there’s John Green and Crash Course:
And finally, if you want a much shorter video that still gives you plenty of detail — and from a history professor who has done and is presumably doing research on the Mongols, here you go:
FYI, my dad is responsible for my family’s interest in Mongolian history. The dad joke in the title? That’s me (though I’m sure he’d approve).
Good luck with your briefing!
