When I heard about a NASA RPG this weekend, I had to look it up and quickly found articles from PC Gamer and Dicebreaker as well as a post on Reddit which gets appropriately wonky.
And then I went to the NASA site itself, which has the adventure and a wonderfully classic map. Basically, a dragon has stolen the Hubble Space Telescope all the way to another world and dimension… and it’s up to a few stalwart humans to get their adventure on and stop this inappropriate hoarding.
Now, I can’t say that I’ve already played it, but rest assured, every indication implies a great conjunction of geekiness and nerddom in the best way. It’s clearly being released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons and looks like it’s easy to work with that RPG’s 5th Edition, but as some of the redditors reveal through their wonky debate above, it can be adapted to various game systems. It also has an easy in for fans of NASA and all those stories where people get transported to fantasy worlds, a story type that I’ve learned is really popular in anime.
I don’t think you need to be fans of anime sub-genres to check this out though. I mean, come on: who wouldn’t want to fight the scheming machinations of dragons… for science?
